It’s truly criminal that after growing up in LA, my first visit to the Craft Contemporary Museum was just this year. Located across from the truly ostentatious Zumthor designed LACMA renovation, this place is such a humble gem. During my visit, they had an artist in residence working on mosaics, an exhibition dedicated to Evelyn and Jerome Ackerman, a design duo working in LA in the mid 20th century, as well as several contemporary responses to their work. Their gift shop is also one of the best I’ve seen in a while, full of handmade objects from around the world like this pouch stitched by Hmong students that I picked up, or handmade buttons from India.
